FAQ

Q:Why are your skeins only 50 grams?

A: Synthetic fibers are less dense than natural fibers. Because of this a 50g 100% acrylic skein is about the same yardage as a 100g natural fiber skein. Because of this, it's usually better to look at yardage for your project.

Q:Are your yarns free from allergens?

A: Yes, all the yarns used for Wasted Yarns is free from allergens caused by animal fibers.

Q: Is your yarn truly vegan friendly?

A: Yes, all the yarn is 100% acrylic and is treated with 100% plant based products.

Q: Is it safe to machine wash and dry this yarn? Will it melt?

A: Yes, the yarn is completely safe to wash and dry. Every attempt is made to rinse all the dye prior to packaging, but there maybe minor bleeding of color. However, due to the nature of the dyes they usually won't adhere to neighboring fabrics. Acrylic yarn can melt, but it takes extreme heat. Normal dryer temperatures should not melt the yarn.

Q: Why is the price point so low?

A: Wasted Yarns utilizes synthetic fibers. Synthetic fibers are manufactured from polymers. Because synthetic fibers do not rely on harder to obtain raw materials they are cheaper to manufacture. Therefore the base cost of synthetic yarn versus natural fibers is quite drastic and allows for a much lower price point.
